The University of Dayton, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Mechanics invites qualified applicants for a tenure-track faculty position commencing Fall 2010. Appointment at the assistant professor level is anticipated, but higher ranks will be considered for truly outstanding candidates. The successful candidate will have research and teaching expertise in engineering mechanics with a focus on solid mechanics, and experience with modern computational methods such as finite element analysis. Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in a discipline related to engineering mechanics. P.E. registration is desirable. Successful candidates must demonstrate the ability to develop externally funded research programs and have a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Mechanics offers a well-rounded, traditional undergraduate program in Civil Engineering with strong emphasis on project work and collaboration, and an exceptional capstone design program. Many of our 200 undergraduate students also work on extracurricular engineering projects, both locally and abroad. The department has graduate master’s degree programs in Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to do pioneering research with engineering mechanics faculty in the department and researchers in the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI), and will be expected to interface with other academic programs to establish multidisciplinary activities.
