The University of Dayton, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Mechanics (CEE) invites qualified applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in Structural Engineering commencing Fall 2010. Appointment at the assistant or associate professor level is anticipated, but a higher rank will be considered for truly outstanding candidates. The successful candidate will have research and teaching expertise in steel and concrete design, structural analysis, materials testing, and some knowledge of construction practices. Knowledge of masonry, timber, and prestressed concrete design will be considered a plus.
The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally funded research program, a solid graduate program, and exhibit a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Practical experience in industry and/or consulting is desirable. Candidates must have earned both Bachelor and Doctorate degrees in Civil Engineering. Professional registration or the ability to obtain professional registration within two years of appointment is required.
The CEE department offers a well-rounded, traditional undergraduate program in Civil Engineering with a strong emphasis on project work and collaboration, as evidenced by an exceptional capstone design experience. Many of our 200 undergraduate students also work on extracurricular engineering projects, both locally and abroad. The Department has graduate master’s degree programs in Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to do pioneering research with engineering mechanics faculty in the Department and researchers in the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI). The candidate will be expected to interface with other academic programs and establish multidisciplinary activities.
