Job Description

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the Florida A & M University-Florida State University joint College of Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of transportation engineering. The candidates must have a B.S. in civil engineering and earned a Ph.D. degree in civil engineering, and must have a strong commitment to quality teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Issues related to the safety and operations of multimodal transportation infrastructure are currently of paramount importance and therefore the candidate is expected to develop strong research programs in these areas. Special consideration will be given to candidates with strong background in transportation systems analysis, operations research, and quantitative applications in transportation. Applicants for this position are expected to develop an externally funded program of independent research, publish in scholarly journals, and interact with colleagues in other groups and disciplines. Although industrial experience and professional registration are desirable, a candidate without professional registration will be required to obtain registration within three years of hiring. The Department currently offers programs leading to the B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering. The undergraduate program is fully accredited. The Department has sixteen full-time faculty members and approximately 320 undergraduate students and 40 graduate students. Current faculty members conduct sponsored research projects exceeding $2.5 million per year.
