Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Construction Engineer is responsible for assisting in the successful operations of the Chicago, Illinois office. The position requires a high level of ethical and professional conduct in technical and managerial activities. This position reports to the Regional Manager of the Chicago, Illinois office.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for assisting in the identifying and cultivating of new business and clients in Illinois.
  • Serve as the Resident Engineer on projects.
  • Assist in preparing an annual comprehensive marketing plan addressing both short term and long term marketing goals.
  • Assist in ensuring that external client focus is top priority of the region, and that systems, processes, and activities that focus on the client at all levels of the region are implemented.
  • Prepare and monitor project budgets.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Assist in ensuring that staff needing specialized training in health and safety procedures and practices receive such training and that safety is stressed as an important aspect of their work.
  • Responsible for project schedules and timely completion of projects.
  • Be active in Technical societies such as; ACEC.
  • Be available to attend meetings or events outside of normal working hours.


Requirements
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree and/or master’s degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university and a minimum of 10 years experience working with the Illinois Department of Transportation.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write technical reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, evaluate facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
