WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY
COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND MINERAL RESOURCES
DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University invites applications for two tenure-track positions starting Fall semester 2010 at the rank of assistant professor. (1) Environmental Engineering: Candidates should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: environmental biotechnology; bio-molecular technology; environmental organic chemistry; ecological applications; water quality; environment-energy nexus; renewable energy; environmental fate and impact of nanomaterials; emerging contaminants such as pharmaceutical waste; industrial waste and site remediation; aquaculture, (2) Water Resources/Hydrology (Hydrotechnical Engineering): Candidates should have expertise in one or more of the following areas: environmental fluid mechanics, surface water or groundwater hydrology, modeling of hydrologic systems, ecohydraulics and wetlands, application of remote sensing data and GIS in water resource systems analysis, impacts of energy production on water resources, and stormwater management and water related sustainability issues in urban environments.

Further, the successful candidates will be expected to: (1) teach both graduate and undergraduate courses in their respective areas; (2) develop and sustain an externally funded research program; and (3) interact with a multi-disciplinary group of faculty. Candidates must have an earned doctorate degree in civil engineering or closely related engineering or an allied science discipline at the time of appointment.

The Department consists of 15 tenure track faculty and 8 research faculty, approximately 200 undergraduate and 70 graduate students, and receives approximately 3 million dollars in external research projects annually. West Virginia University is the state Land Grant University with an enrollment exceeding 29,000 students. Morgantown is ranked as one of the top small cities in the U.S. for quality of life and economic stability. It is located 75 miles south of Pittsburgh, PA, in scenic northern West Virginia.
