The City of San José established a national reputation for environmental leadership and innovation during the 1980s with award-winning recycling, water conservation, and wastewater treatment programs. One of the responsibilities of the Environmental Services Department (ESD) is the operation and infrastructure improvements of the San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility (RWF).
The RWF is one of the largest advanced wastewater treatment facilities in the nation and serves a population of over 1.4 million people over a 300 square mile service area. It has the capacity to treat 167 million gallons of wastewater per day. A major rebuild and revitalization of the RWF is currently underway, with over $1.4 billion envisioned to be invested in the RWF in the next ten years. The Mechanical Maintenance Division is responsible for supporting this rebuild and ensuring that all RWF mechanical equipment and systems are well maintained, managed, and functioning efficiently to meet the needs of the treatment process.
With a vision of predictive and planned, modern day maintenance, this position will help take the RWF to the next level. The Division Manager will be part of the team charged with modernizing the plant.
A Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Civil, Mechanical, Environmental Science or a closely related field, is required. A Master’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Science is preferred. Other qualifications include six years of increasingly responsible professional experience in administration, budget planning, and program management in wastewater or similar industrial environment in a municipal setting, including at least three years of supervisory experience.
