We are looking for a vibrant and dynamic Research Officer, to support our Construction Research Centre. The Research Officer (RO) would be someone who shares our core values of impact, accountability, leadership, integrity and collaboration.
The primary responsibility of the RO is to support the goals of NRC and the Construction Research Centre through application of research of international calibre and through the development and application of advanced technologies, with a focus on research and development on seismic assessment of existing structures and infrastructure systems, including buildings. The RO works in a team environment with researchers and technical experts in world-class facilities. Activities include the development of proposals for new research initiatives, project management, and providing service to NRC clients. The RO provides input into the overall direction and research priorities for the program area within the context of the business plan of the research centre.
Significant experience in Earthquake Engineering (at least five years of industrial experience) with emphasis on seismic analysis, design, assessment, and retrofit/upgrade of existing structures and infrastructure systems, and seismic resistant design of new buildings;
Significant experience in the seismic performance-based design of building structures;
Significant experience with Canadian and provincial Building Codes, and Canadian seismic design codes and standards for steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and timber structures;
Experience with writing proposals, project management, business development, marketing activities, and/or the development of partnerships and collaborations and dealing with clients;
Experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams;
Experience with finite element modelling for solid mechanics and related commercial software packages (e.g., SAP2000, ANSYS, ETABS, SAFE, ABAQUS, etc.) may be considered as an asset;
Experience with testing and modelling of structural systems under controlled laboratory conditions or actual field conditions would be an asset.
