Wood Environment & Infrastruction Solutions is currently seeking Senior Technician - Senior Highway Inspector to join one of our three Michigan office locations in Lansing, Novi, and/or Traverse City.
The ideal candidate for this position is self-motivated, self-disciplined, and able to work independently. Strong interpersonal skills are critical. Proven technical writing skills and experience in roadway and bridge construction inspection and materials testing are necessary.
Key Responsibilities •Read and interpret project plans, drawings, and specifications •Inspect various facets of the road and/or bridge items of work on the construction site to determine acceptability •Follow applicable quality control and/or quality assurance practices and procedures •Monitor the contractor’s construction work for compliance with all project documents including the plans, specifications, contractor submittals, etc. •Determine that the installed materials meet all specification and testing requirements and that they are from approved sources •Report any deficiencies in the contractor’s work to the Engineer in Charge or their designee •Measure, calculate, and determine all quantities of assigned work and/or installed materials •Prepare Inspector’s Daily Reports (IDRS) using FieldBook and/or other required computer software •Review the IDRs of other technicians as required and note deficiencies and seek correction of the deficiencies as necessary •Oversee junior inspection and/or testing staff •Participate in meetings such as Weekly Progress Meetings, Item Start-up Meetings, Safety Meetings, etc. as necessary
Skills / Qualifications
Required •High School Diploma or equivalent •5-12 years of experience in construction engineering and inspection in field and office assignments on transportation construction projects in road and/or bridge items of work, including a minimum of 5 years’ experience in bridge construction inspection and/or 5 years’ experience in roadway construction inspection •Required Certifications and Training: ?MDOT FieldManager Training ?Michigan Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control (SESC) - Comprehensive Certification ?Storm Water Operator Certification ?Michigan Concrete Field Testing - MCA - Level 1 Minimum •Must pass drug test, entrance physical, and background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
Preferred •Associates Degree in Civil Technology and/or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or like field •MDOT Bridge Deck Construction Inspection & Bridge Rehabilitation Inspection •MDOT Hot Mix Asphalt (Bituminous) Paving or MDOT Hot Mix Asphalt (Bituminous) Paving Operations Certification •Michigan Certified Aggregate Technician •MDOT Density Technology Certification
Physical Demands •Working outside in various, inclement weather conditions, uneven terrain as necessary •Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds •Ability to use hands to operate field equipment as necessary •Close, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory function •Office/Field work with computer
