Job Description

 

The SmithGroupJJR Summer Internship Program is designed to attract the best and brightest students from around the world and is dedicated to the advancement of young professionals in the fields of Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Urban Design and Planning. As an intern at SmithGroupJJR, you will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with a wide-range of professionals – from landscape architects, planners and architects to engineers, botanists and wildlife ecologists.

Selected students will spend approximately 12 weeks working as an intern in one of our many offices - Ann Arbor, MI, Chicago, IL, Madison, WI, or Phoenix, AZ.  Students will be exposed to both the creative and business environment.  Assignments will vary and include project research, site visits, computer production, design reviews, and assisting on marketing efforts.

Interns will return to their studies enriched by exposure to other students and professionals, and to the extraordinary opportunities in the profession of their choice.

Requirements

Based on the criteria below, the following materials must be submitted for evaluation by the selection committee:

  1. A brief cover letter including a response to the following question (one page maximum):  “What experience, person, location, etc. has had a profound impact on your decision to become a civil engineer?” 

 

  1. Current resume.

 

  1. A minimum of two educational or professional references that are familiar with your civil engineering training.  Include phone numbers and e-mail addresses for your references.

Suggested:

  1. A maximum of two project examples: Plans, documents, studies, etc. that you have produced which you feel best represents your talents and/or experience working independently or as part of a team.  Include a short written summary description of your work answering questions such as “Why did you choose this example? What were the issues and what was your solution?”
