The Engineering Laboratory (EL) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Research Structural Engineer with experience in large-scale structural experimentation and background in concrete design and construction. The research structural engineer will play a critical role in building a vibrant research program on the performance of reinforced concrete structures under both natural and man-made hazards including mitigation of disproportionate (progressive) collapse, fire and wind effects, and degradation of concrete structures due to aging and chemical attacks such as alkali-silica reaction. The candidate will join NIST’s research team in Structural Performance under Multi-hazards and will be responsible for conceiving, safely conducting, and reporting on experimental research on performance of reinforced concrete structures. The candidate will also contribute to the development of experimentally validated numerical models of the behavior of reinforced concrete structures.
The Research Structural Engineer will lead the design of test structures and test fixtures, and experimental and instrumentation plans; and will oversee the construction of test structures and the conduct of experiments. She/he shall document, interpret, synthesize, and report experimental results.
