The Department of Mechanical Engineering of the College of Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, announces a tenure-track faculty position to begin August 2017. The Department seeks an individual with commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, a strong desire for mentoring student projects to participate in National and International student design competitions, and a concise and ambitious research plan. The Department is particularly interested in candidates with research expertise in Bioengineering to support the newly created program track in Bio-Mechanical Systems.
The Department has an ambitious agenda for the next five years focused on expanding graduate programs, research capabilities, facilities, and recruiting highly talented faculty. A new state-of-the-art engineering building housing research and supporting facilities is being built and will be completed in the next two years in support of this agenda. The Department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering with current research thrust areas in bioengineering, automotive/motorsports, energy systems, and robotic/autonomous systems. The campus is located adjacent to the Daytona Beach International Airport and the Daytona International Speedway. Daytona Beach and the surrounding areas offer a salubrious subtropical climate with some of the world's premiere beaches and recreational opportunities.
Applicants for the Assistant Professor rank should demonstrate a potential to establish and grow a strong research program and to excel at teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants for the Associate Professor rank should have an exemplary record of teaching and scholarly activities including externally funded research. Applicants for the Professor rank will be considered from individuals with exceptional qualifications and those with national recognition.
Faculty candidates should have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a closely related discipline. Successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, support laboratories, mentor students, participate in student design competitions, conduct research, and seek and secure extramural funding to support their research agenda. Candidates will be required to develop a research program that complements and expands existing expertise in the Department and the College of Engineering. Successful candidates must demonstrate their commitment to foster and promote a collaborative, creative, innovative, diverse, and entrepreneurial culture.
