Reporting to the Manager of Capital Engineering & Planning for the Arkansas Kraft Division, the Plant Mechanical Engineer will have management responsibilities for assigned projects and related tasks. From a project perspective, this person must work closely with their end customers, whether operations, maintenance, environmental, or some combination of all. They must be able to communicate effectively with all departments from the conception phase all the way through project closure. They must be able to negotiate through differing opinions and personalities, thereby reinforcing a team concept.
The Plant Mechanical Engineer is a senior level position, and will coordinate project planning, execution, start-up, and closure according to strict deadlines and budget.
A B.S.M.E. is required; or possibly Civil/Structural depending on work experience. The Plant Mechanical Engineer should have at least 15 years of project management experience in the Pulp and Paper Industry, or some near equivalent. The candidate must have a working knowledge of how projects flow thru various phases, and how to manage each of these phases to completion..
While expertise in project implementation is critical, an awareness of all aspects of how safety, housekeeping, applicable codes, and environmental regulation relates to projects is essential.
Has the credibility to work with other departments to achieve AKD’s visions and strategies by motivating, inspiring, and gaining commitment through project scope development and execution.
Has the ability to effectively work with various operating, maintenance, and/or other departmental groups meeting their needs while always focusing on the overall implementation of a successful project.
Knows how to facilitate or delegate tasks to the appropriate level of responsibility in order to manage at the proper level.
Understands how to manage projects from small expense to large capital.
Knows how to manage projects other than those with purely mechanical discipline (manage the experts).
Superior verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively deliver and reinforce consistent messages at all levels.
The ability to clearly and effectively communicate departmental needs and goals up and down the organization.
Provide leadership to maintain and improve safe working conditions and good housekeeping practices in design as well as construction.
Effectively develop and manage multiple project budgets while providing input into the annual and 5-year capital planning process.
Coordinate activities of various disciplines throughout the project phases.
