Design Duties include: Plumbing designs for hot and cold water, waste and vent, and storm water systems. Sustainable design for systems such as water reduction, grey water collection, and rain water collection. Specialized piping systems such as Compressed Air, Medical Gas, Natural/LP Gas, and Grease/Oil Separation. Process Piping Systems for Industrial (equipment) and Laboratory (Acid Waste/Neutralization) applications
RESPONSIBILITIES: The specific responsibilities of the Plumbing Designer include, but are not limited to, the following:
Design Design and layout engineering drawings within Plumbing specialty. Complete Plumbing calculations including water supply, storm, and equipment sizes. Design Plumbing systems including sanitary waste, vent, storm, domestic water distribution systems, and purified water systems. Design medical gas systems, compressed air, vacuum, and natural gas systems. Designs, selects, schedules, sizes and specifies basic Plumbing system components to include plumbing fixtures, drains, and equipment. Design and select fire protection systems and equipment.
Project Management Knowledgeable in consulting and construction practices to include plan/specifications, design/build and construction manager roles and responsibilities. Specifies portions of the engineering system from manufacturer’s data and works to avoid the expense of inventing new designs. Understands and applies state and local and model codes as related to buildings and Plumbing design. Assists in preparing quantity and construction cost estimates as requested. Works to meet design schedules and complete tasks on budget. Capable of producing graphs, charts, overlays, plans, details, isometric and perspective drawings. Assists in the review of shop drawing submittals as requested and posts modifications as needed. Provides project information to staff and clients as requested through attendance at project meetings, e-mail, correspondence etc. Prepares Plumbing for submittal to Department of Commerce. Works to keep errors to a minimum by developing realistic schedules, and identifying, reacting and communicating immediately to symptoms before they become larger problems. Assists in developing and maintaining Plumbing project schedules and budgets. Assists in developing and maintaining project work plan and monitors team progress. Assist with field work assignments. Should continually review processes and make recommendations for improvement. Carries out specific client development strategies as assigned by Marketing such as providing leads to management when possible.
Qualifications/Education Two or more years of experience in plumbing design Experience using AutoCAD and Revit A Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or extensive experience in plumbing design Outstanding communication skills; both verbal and written High-level of understanding HVAC, electrical, building design, and construction process from inception through completion
