Amec Wheeler Foster Environment & Infrastructure is seeking an On-Call Environmental Scientist to provide support and assistance for environmental projects throughout Guam.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to contribute to a variety of challenging field projects with some office responsibilities relating to environmental site investigations, sampling and monitoring programs and site remediation. The position will include work on a variety of projects involving environmental sampling, monitoring, inspections and basic operation and maintenance on remediation systems and support technical reports, plans and calculations in a consulting environment.
Follow company safety standards, site safety standards
Perform field investigation, inspection, analysis including soil and groundwater sampling and general site inspections / assessments
Collect routine data, perform routine calculations and measurements
Assist in preparation of technical reports, including text, maps, charts, figures, tables
Manage, evaluate and interpret chemical, geologic, hydrogeologic, biological and other environmental data and perform chemical calculations
Observe routine construction operations and write daily reports
Apply federal, state and local environmental regulations
Contact vendors; research literature; seek solutions to regulatory requirements
Perform field oversight of Amec Foster Wheeler or subcontractor personnel
Interact with specialists in other technical practice areas in support of projects
Other activities as required and based on abilities and interest
Skills / Qualifications
Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in environmental science, geology, engineering, hydrogeology or related science; Master’s degree or 2+ years of relevant experience preferred
0 to 5 years environmental professional experience. 1 or more years preferred
Team player with strong problem solving skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, fluent in English, good organizational skills, a willingness to learn, the ability to self-manage multiple tasks and priorities and the willingness to seek help from senior staff as needed
Valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance or ability to qualify for automobile insurance coverage
Ability to pass a physical exam for medical clearance to work on hazardous waste sites
Ability to work in industrial and field environments as well as the office
Ability to perform work in personal protective equipment and air purifying respirator
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
Ability to understand procedural manuals and execute work plans
Attention to detail with the ability to balance a diverse and changing workload
Basic field investigation skills (e.g., soil and groundwater sampling)
Ability to work effectively with team members as well as independently
OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER training preferred
Experience with NAVFAC is preferred, and with RCRA and CERCLA projects is a plus
Outside work-site with environmental hazards, etc.
May require work at remote sites and around construction equipment, drilling rigs, explosives and environment contamination
Overtime and overnight stays will be required
Fieldwork will require working with hazardous materials and in hazardous conditions
Travel required, with varied frequency, duration, hours, etc.
Will spend most or all of time in the field, including sites remote from the office
