Under the direction of the Public Works Director, performs overall management, administration and supervision of the Transportation Division, to include Permitting and GIS Sections. Incumbent will be responsible for developing and directing implementation of standards for maintenance and operation of traffic signs, signals, striping and markings. Incumbents supervises, assigns, reviews and evaluates the work of assigned staff.
Must be registered as a Professional Civil Engineer in the state of CaliforniaAND five years of progressively responsible experience managing traffic engineering projects to include two years supervising other engineers. Registration as a Traffic Engineer (TE) in the State of California is desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledgeable of transportation engineering best practices and principles, management and/or supervision best practices, budgeting and purchasing techniques and procedures and of specialized computer hardware and software used in the field of Transportation/Traffic Engineering;
Ability to: Oversee and participate in the management of a comprehensive traffic and transportation program; oversee, direct, and coordinate the work of assigned staff; develop and implement division goals, objectives, and procedures; prepare and administer large program budgets; effectively conduct short and long range planning studies; design traffic control and flow systems; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
