The Resident Engineer serves as the company representative at the work site to ensure that the work performed by the contractor is in accordance with the plans and specifications. May work with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois Tollway, City of Chicago, Metra, various Municipalities and Sub Consultants. Requires a comprehensive knowledge of engineering and construction-related processes, as well as industry practices. Must possess the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within documents. Also requires excellent written and oral communication skills, a familiarity with CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering and construction, and the proven ability for performing in a supervisory capacity on a project.
Monitoring the progress of the work
Oversight of project documentation
Set up and maintenance of project filing system
Maintaining Quantity Book
- Upkeep of Daily Logs and Contractor Logs
- Conducting weekly progress meetings
- Maintaining monthly pay estimates
- Maintaining project records to ensure compliance with plans, specifications and regulations
- Initiate correspondence
Recognizing/acting promptly on potential changes or additional work to the contract, conflicts or ambiguities in the plans and specifications, and changes in field conditions.
Bachelor Degree in Engineering
P.E. License preferred
7+ years’ experience with the concepts and practices within the construction field.
Successfully served as Resident Engineer on at least one transportation project with a minimum construction value of $10 million.
Must be experienced in oversight of staff and sub consultants and have the ability to effectively and efficiently deal with clients to assist in the resolution of project issues.
