The Vice President of Engineering, Applied Research & Manufacturing Support directs and leads the engineering teams and initiatives in technical manufacturing support, global rebuilding of glass furnaces and assets, technology roadmap process of mapping technical direction, and applied research priorities and strategies within the company and its regions.
Responsibilities: • Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), responsible to develop operating plan and strategic objectives • Determine overall organizational structure and allocations of managerial responsibilities • Provide leadership and direction to others in solving complex problems • Lead, coach and mentor global engineering team o Establish long-term performance goals and standards for the global engineering function • Responsible for the scientific and career growth of employees • Function as CapEx review committee member • Responsible for capacity planning and serve as New Product Development stage gate technical advisor • Lead the transformation of Libbey’s technical capability process • Develop strategic planning for the direction and control of product research & development activities • Review and approve major projects • Monitor projects and initiatives to ensure that they are executed on track, within budget and that appropriate testing and other risk, governance oversight and controls are being performed. • Be a student of current industry trends, ensuring that the company remains competitive and expands its technology leadership position • Provide technical direction education to the Executive Leadership Team, including guidance and hands-on projects management, as appropriate • Manage staffing levels to meet the needs of the business, including contract and temporary employees • Ensure R&D strategy and execution are key focus areas of engineering • Drive a culture of not only meeting, but exceeding customer and consumer requirements • Provide meaningful and timely performance feedback, including development opportunities to maximize team talent • Provide meaningful rewards and recognition to maximize team motivation and engagement
Requirements & Qualifications: • Required – BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering • Preferred – Masters in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering, with an emphasis in Glass/Material Science • 15+ years of glass industry engineering experience, including management experience at the Sr. Director or Vice President level • Extensive knowledge of glass and glass manufacturing • Self-motivated, strong in building relationships, team player, dynamic leader • Strong business acumen; required to operate at the executive level • Strong relationship management, strategy development, project management, problem solving and change management skills • Ability to drive innovation • Competent engineering skills and/or knowledge in multiple engineering disciplines • Ability to manage multiple projects of varying complexities • Lead by example in demonstrating Libbey’s values and supporting our strategic initiatives • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills • Competent business related computer skills, including Microsoft Office products
