To support Amec Foster Wheeler’s growth, we are currently seeking to fill a Senior Bridge Technologist for our Calgary Infrastructure office. As the Senior Bridge Technologist located in our Calgary office you will provide management and design of standard bridges and culverts throughout Southern Alberta. Your primary focus will be managing various projects for several clients throughout the Calgary Region and Southern Alberta. You may also be required to provide project management or technical support to other projects from within our Water Resources and Community Infrastructure groups or other business units as required.

Duties and Responsibilities include:
Your primary responsibility will be the design of standard bridges and culverts in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Alberta Transportation
Communicating with our client representatives and client managers
Coordinating the work of our other business units may also be required to deliver this work to the satisfaction of our client
Preparing Preliminary Engineering Reports including hydrotechnical analysis, development of structure alternatives, cost benefit analysis and cost estimates
Leading the detailed design process including preparation of all reports and drawings
Providing technical support during the construction of standard bridges and culverts
Duties may include supervising others assigned to your projects and supporting the preparation of preliminary and detailed engineering design drawings. This may include, but is not limited to plot plans, cross sections, profiles and other miscellaneous detail plans required to support standard bridge and culvert projects. You will also be required to prepare preliminary and detailed designs including, but not necessarily limited to site assessments design calculations, quantity estimates and cost estimates.
Technical support for the design and construction of major bridges may also be required and the level of involvement on major bridges will be dependent on the experience and technical qualifications of the successful candidate
Coordinate and participate in bridge / culvert inspections
Coordinate and supervise other project supervisors / inspectors, survey crews, material inspectors & contractors
Preparation of tender and contract documents
Construction and post-construction supervision
Skills / Qualifications
Graduate from a certified engineering technologist program
C.E.T. member in good standing with ASET
Professional Technologist (P.Tech) or a Professional Licensee P.L. (Eng.). Scope of practice must include the design of standard bridges and culvert
Must be familiar with Alberta Transportation Bridges and Culvert Design Standards
Certified under the Alberta Bridge Inspection & Maintenance certification process as a Class A or B Inspector
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience with design and construction management of roadway and bridge related infrastructure projects
Will also consider a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with a minimum 5 years of bridge / culvert related experience
Ability to work independently on project assignments
Ability to manage small project teams
Client management skills
Experience working with various public agencies including municipalities, Alberta Transportation, City of Calgary, Parks Canada, etc.
