The City of Puyallup (population 36360) was settled in the early 1800’s and formally established in 1877. The community initially served as an agricultural and retail center, with the Northern Pacific Railroad also contributing heavily to the economy. Puyallup is situated ten miles east of Tacoma and 30 miles south of Seattle at the junction of two major transportation routes, SR 167 and Hwy. 51...2. The city is set against the scenic backdrop of Mount Rainier and the Cascade Mountain Range in a fertile valley.
