The Utilities Department is seeking to fill the position of Project Engineer I (EIT) or II (PE). The Project Engineer will assist with the planning, management and oversight of a variety of civil engineering projects associated with water and wastewater infrastructure system improvements. This position will provide highly responsible and complex administrative and technical support. Key responsibilities include engineering design; review of plans, specifications and contract documents; and construction management as necessary. This position will report to the Assistant Director.
At minimum, requires 1) Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with major course work in civil engineering or a related field, 2) responsible experience in civil engineering projects directly related to municipal water and/or wastewater facilities, subdivision development and site planning, and hydraulic modeling and evaluation of water and/or wastewater systems, and 3) possession of an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) certificate that is recognized by the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions by date of hire. The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Desire computer hydraulic modeling experience, especially as it relates to water and wastewater systems, and working knowledge of MS Office, AutoCAD, Innovyze InfoWater and InfoSWMM and GIS software. Additional experience with SCADA, industrial process control, electrical systems and Big Data also desirable. The successful candidate must also have a valid driver’s license and pass a post-offer City physical and drug screen.
Additional Salary Information: Based on certification levels, position will be hired into either of the following two ranges. Starting pay within that range is typically at the low to mid point depending on years of direct experience.
