Tenure Track or Tenured Faculty Position in Geotechnical Engineering in Civil & Environmental Engineering

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at The Pennsylvania State University is pleased to announce a search for a tenure track or tenured Faculty position in Geotechnical Engineering.

Candidates with expertise in all areas of geotechnical, geomechanical, and geoenvironmental engineering are invited to apply, and in particular candidates with demonstrated strengths to address infrastructure challenges and developments with significant societal impacts. The ideal candidate should demonstrate intellectual depth and promise for high-quality research as well

as a commitment to teaching excellence. Individuals with demonstrated abilities to collaborate across disciplines also are encouraged to apply.

The CEE Department is a vibrant and dynamic unit with 38 faculty members, 17 research scientists, annual research expenditures of $18M, and U.S. News and World Report rankings of 13th and 20th, respectively, for undergraduate and graduate programs in civil engineering. Department faculty members have received prestigious honors including many professional society awards, 12 NSF CAREER awards, and one NAE membership. Penn State is one of the nation's leading research universities with research expenditures over $1 billion annually. Penn State also has substantial outlets for interdisciplinary research through the Thomas D. Larson Pennsylvania Transportation Institute, Materials Research Institute, Institute for Computational and Data Sciences, and Institutes of Energy and the Environment. Applicants should have a doctoral degree in civil engineering or related field at the start of the appointment. Candidates seeking the rank of Associate Professor should have a strong track record of success in teaching, research, and service. Candidates seeking the rank of Full Professor should have, in addition, a research track record that distinguishes them as a leader in the profession.

In addition, the preferred candidate should have demonstrated teaching experience through academic courses, professional conference presentations, outreach, or related activities. The successful applicant is expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to develop a research program leading to national and international recognition.
