Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering and Engineering Studies

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Program in Engineering Studies

Lafayette College

The Lafayette College Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) and Engineering Studies Program (EGRS) invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of project management, commencing in August 2022. The position is a joint appointment in both CEE and EGRS. Candidates must be able to teach courses in civil engineering project management, engineering economics, and construction management; candidates with expertise in topics of sustainable infrastructure such as green construction, life cycle analysis, and emerging resilient technologies will be especially suited for the position. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in civil engineering or related field by August 1, 2022, and possess enthusiasm for teaching and the ability to communicate complex, technical concepts to students. Applications are especially welcome from candidates who will contribute to Lafayette’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the potential to develop a research program that involves undergraduate students in meaningful research experiences and to produce publications in peer-reviewed journals. Particular consideration will be given to candidates with professional experience, professional engineering licensure, teaching experience, and/or experience conducting research with undergraduate students.

Lafayette College has been a leader of formalized undergraduate engineering education since 1866. Since its inception, the engineering division has emphasized superior education in engineering and the liberal arts, placing a strong emphasis on student-faculty interaction. This is accomplished via innovative teaching, opportunities to engage in research, completion of hands-on design projects, and thriving study abroad programs. In recent years the engineering programs have been ranked in the top 15 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report among undergraduate-focused institutions. This tenure-track position provides a unique opportunity to mentor students at one of the nation’s highly ranked undergraduate-only institutions offering ABET-accredited engineering degrees. The teaching load is five courses per year (four in the faculty member’s first year). Candidates can find more information about the CEE department (http://ce.lafayette.edu/) and EGRS program (https://es.lafayette.edu/) at their websites.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, a statement of teaching philosophy and interests, a statement of research interests, a curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference through Interfolio (apply.interfolio.com/91526). Application materials should demonstrate the applicant’s commitment to teaching engineering in an undergraduate, liberal arts environment and address how the applicant’s teaching, research, and/or service will support Lafayette’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Review of applications will begin on October 1, 2021. However, applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
