SENIOR CIVIL ENGINEER
The County of San Diego is currently accepting applications for the position of Senior Civil Engineer
Senior Civil Engineers are responsible for performing, supervising, and coordinating professional civil or structural engineering work in the field and office. This is a lead/supervisory level job class responsible for managing highly visible and sensitive projects, and for supervising subordinate engineering staff performing several projects. The current vacancy is located in the Department of Public Works, however this eligible list may be used to fill other future vacancies.
The ideal candidate should have the experience and the ability to perform the following:
- Identify and define technical and administrative problems, identify and evaluate alternative solutions, and select and implement the best alternative
- Apply modern engineering techniques and principles of sound design and construction practices to solve a variety of engineering problems
- Serve as a group supervisor or project leader in planning, directing, and coordinating the work of subordinate engineers and technicians
- Review proposed projects to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and check engineering designs, details, estimates, plans, and specifications
- Prepare technical correspondence and engineering reports relating to assigned construction projects
- Act as a technical expert in disputes and construction claim resolution
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current registration by the State of California as a Professional Engineer, AND,
1. Two (2) years of post-registration experience performing professional civil or structural engineering work; OR,
2.Two (2) years of experience as a Civil Engineer with the County of San Diego.
Condition of Employment
In accordance with County of San Diego policies and the California Department of Public Health Order dated August 5, 2021, depending on work location, employees must adhere to one of the below requirements:
1. Provide a copy of your COVID-19 Vaccination OR undergo weekly COVID-19 testing and observe all other infection control requirements, including face coverings; OR,
2. All employees that work in healthcare facilities are required to be vaccinated. A requirement of employment is to provide a copy of your COVID-19 Vaccination at time of appointment.

Minimum Qualifications
Qualified applicants must possess registration by the State of California as a Professional Engineer.
Some positions in the Department of Public Works may require a Qualified Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Developer (QSD) and/or Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) certificate as required by Order No. 2010-0014-DWQ within one year of appointment.
