The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech invites applications for a Collegiate Faculty position. This is a renewable, non-tenure track contract position at Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level depending on the qualifications.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (http://www.me.vt.edu/), which includes a Nuclear Engineering Program, has 68 faculty, 33 affiliate faculty, annual research expenditures of over $18M, and a current enrollment of 300 graduate students with about 150 students at doctoral level, and nearly 1200 undergraduate students. The Department is ranked 17th (10th in public schools) and 17th (9th in public schools) out of all mechanical engineering departments in the nation in undergraduate and graduate education, respectively, by the 2021 U.S. News and World Report.

Applicants must hold at least a Master’s degree in engineering or a closely related discipline by the start time of their appointment. We are seeking candidates committed to a career in teaching with significant engineering experience in industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for primarily teaching undergraduate courses in both regular classrooms and distance-learning settings, and for mentoring and advising students. We are seeking candidates who have a broad teaching interest in all mechanical engineering subareas, including all traditional areas of solid and fluid mechanics, materials, heat transfer, thermodynamics, vibrations, controls, design, technical electives, capstone senior design, leadership/entrepreneurship and instrumentation/experimental-methods courses. Candidates must have industry experience. Preference will be given to candidates based on credentials and experience, not based on the subarea; although the ability to teach a wide range of courses at the undergraduate level is preferred.
