Support the Department of Public Works in their mission to provide professional public works services to manage natural and built systems, and foster community health, safety, and sustainability. The Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Public Service Manager who are highly motivated and who strive for success by demonstrating Charlottesville's Core Values of Leadership, Trust, Creativity, Respect, and Excellence.

The Public Service Manager performs technical and administrative work overseeing the operation and maintenance of City services related to roadway, sidewalk and traffic signal assets, which includes but is not limited to street paving, emergency weather response, street lighting operations. The position also is responsible for right-of-way management, refuse (solid waste management), street sweeping, leaf pickup program, and snow and ice operations. Position reports to the Public Works Director. Supervision is exercised over Public Service Division personnel. Primarily and most frequently, the work done here is performed as leader or director with broad functional areas and more expertise and strategic focus.

The hiring salary will be between $73,474.02 to $111,820.80 annually. Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. This is a full-time, exempt, position. Minimum Requirements: 

  • Five years of professional experience in public service management; AND 
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university and 5 years of relevant work experience within the last 7 years.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Virginia required.
