CITY GOVERNMENT AND ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
The City has a FY2021 adopted budget of just over $115.6 million in expenditures. Wentzville’s personal property tax rate is the 2nd lowest of the five largest municipalities within St. Charles County, Missouri. The City's capital improvement project budget includes more than $70 million over the next five years that is exclusively dedicated to transportation improvement projects.
Due to the current and continued growth within Wentzville, the City recently launched the new Department of Engineering by separating duties from its Public Works Department. This newly created Director of Engineering position will plan and direct all operations of the Engineering Department including the Stormwater Division, and will be responsible for the development, management, integration and implementation of a wide variety of functions, programs, plans and staff engaged in the engineering design of all City infrastructure and facilities.
The new Director of Engineering can expect to work closely with the Director of Public Works, the Director of Community Development, and the City Administrator, as well as with fellow department directors and staff, elected officials and members of the City’s boards and commissions as appropriate. The Director of Engineering is an integral part of the City of Wentzville’s leadership team, requiring well-developed leadership abilities and management skills that are based upon consensus building, visioning and problem solving. The Director will serve as the City Engineer and must have a strong desire to work in a collegial, fast-paced, team-oriented environment. They must be a highly motivated, self-starting, detailed-oriented and confident individual with excellent interpersonal skills.
- A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction-related field from an accredited college or university is required. A Licensed Professional Engineer in Missouri or the ability to obtain a Missouri license within 12 months of employment is required.
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering or private sector construction project management or the equivalent combination of education and experience is desired. A Professional Traffic Operations Engineer, a Certified Stormwater Manager, or a Project Management Professional certification is preferred.
- Additionally, NIMS or Emergency Management Training is preferred or the ability to obtain it within 12 months of employment.
The salary range for this position is $101,767 - $125,754 DOQ. The City offers a very competitive benefit package including participation in the Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System (LAGERS) system and a full range of leave and benefits centered around a life/work balance.
