Civil Engineer III (SR-22)

Position Information: 
Makes office and field studies of proposed projects and recommends the design, type and location of equipment to be installed;  makes survey computations and prepares preliminary drawings; designs and assists in the design of reservoirs, retaining walls, bridges, culverts, tunnels, pipelines, sewers, sidewalks, highways, and other concrete, steel and timber structures by computing grades and alignments, loadings and stresses, determining the size, proportion and dimensions of structures and supervising the preparation of construction plans and drawings; assists in the preparation of specifications and contract documents; prepares cost and quantity estimates; checks shop drawings; supervises construction and inspection activities; reviews and recommends approval of, or changes to, plans and specifications of proposed projects; keeps records of work done, materials used, and prepares monthly and final payment estimates; makes hydrologic and land development studies; reviews and interprets plans and specifications of buildings and structures for compliance with the building code; reviews test reports and soil analysis reports; assists in or carries out special engineering investigations and studies; prepares technical reports and correspondence.

Current Vacancies:  There are currently four vacancies with the Department of Environmental Services (Environmental Quality Division and Wastewater Engineering & Construction Division) and the Honolulu Board of Water Supply.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in an engineering specialty.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Two years of non-registered professional civil engineering experience.

• Substitution: Master's degree in Civil Engineering will substitute for one year of the required professional civil engineering experience.

 
LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Valid Hawaii State driver's license (Type 3), prior to appointment.
