Job Details

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) of the School of Engineering, Rutgers—New Brunswick, is seeking applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in the area of Geotechnical Engineering. The hire is intended to augment the expanded growth of the Department in the new Richard Weeks Hall of Engineering The anticipated start date of the employment is September 1, 2022. 

The faculty search aligns with the strategic directions of the Department and recognition of the need for building collaborative relationships between engineering disciplines and beyond. Of special interest for this search are candidates demonstrating knowledge, creativity, and innovation in sustainable and resilient geotechnical systems. The candidates with interest in new ways we design, build, and operate our geotechnical systems for improved systems performance; designing and building of geotechnical systems that are resilient to the impacts of climate change and natural disasters; risk assessment in geotechnical engineering and reliability-based geotechnical design; geoenvironmental engineering and energy geotechnics; underground development and urban geotechnics; experimentation and computing in the development of new geo-materials and technologies, and understanding of how the built environment interfaces with the natural environment and the society; are invited to apply. 

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field. The successful candidate is expected to develop a well-funded research program and build collaborative relationships with research programs within the School of Engineering and other programs inside and outside the University. The successful candidate is also expected to develop and teach new courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels within the Department that incorporate the state of the art knowledge and innovation.
