The City of Costa Mesa is recruiting for the position of
PRINCIPAL CIVIL ENGINEER
Under minimal direction, the Principal Civil Engineer performs a broad range of highly complex and professional civil engineering and administrative responsibilities in support of the City Engineer.
An incumbent in this class exercises independent judgment and discretion in establishing work plans and priorities, accomplishes the Engineering Division's goals and objectives, and is responsible for ensuring activities are consistent with City policy. Supervision at this level is normally over multiple project teams. Work is reviewed by the City Engineer through conferences and reports, principally for determining results achieved, professional competence, and adherence to pertinent policies, procedures and regulations.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will possess at least four years of progressively responsible experience in the field of civil engineering, including three years supervisory and administrative experience related to municipal public works planning, design, construction and administration.
Graduation from a four year accredited college or university with a major course work in civil engineering. Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Registered Civil Engineer in the State of California is mandatory. Certification as a Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD) and Practitioner (QSP) is highly desirable.
