Job Details
The City is seeking a hands-on, detail and team-oriented professional with energy and focus as well as an ability to make decisions independently while keeping the Deputy City Manager and City Manager informed. Timely responsiveness to internal and external customer inquiries is an essential trait for the position. The Director must have a significant breadth of Public Works experience. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge base in engineering and operation of public assets.
The Public Works Director organizes, directs and coordinates all facets of public works as described above. The Director works with the City Engineer on short- and long-range plans for public works projects and capital facilities; identifies revenue sources; directs use of revenue and controls expenditures; reviews accounting and financial reports, staffing schedules, cost estimates and revenue projections; reviews, administers and evaluates contractual agreements for service equipment, real property and facilities; develops and administers the department budget; selects, trains, evaluates and directs the work of subordinates; represents the department to a variety of commissions, professional organizations, citizen groups and the general public.
Candidates for this position must possess six years of management experience at the Public Works Department Director, Assistant Department Director, or Division Manager level. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Urban Planning or related field. A Master's degree is highly desirable.
Registration by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers (PE) is highly desirable.
