Company

The mission of the Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District is to promote public health and welfare through the collection, treatment, and reclamation of wastewater, while assessing stable, competitive rates. In conjunction with others, the organization will encourage pollution prevention and support programs to help ensure that water contaminated by human activity is returned clean to the environment. The Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District (GBMSD) was established in 1931 under the authority the Wisconsin State Statutes Chapter 200. The GBMSD is governed by a five-member Commission who are appointed for staggered five-year office terms. Commissioners are appointed by the Brown County Executive and approved by the Brown County Board of Supervisors. The GBMSD owns and operates two wastewater treatment facilities in Green Bay and De Pere, Wisconsin. Combined, the facilities on average treat 38 million gallons per day (mgd) and serve 17 communities and two contract customers. Services are provided to the Cities of Green Bay and De Pere; the Villages of Allouez, Ashwaubenon, Bellevue, Hobart, Howard, Luxemburg, Pulaski, and Suamico; and the Towns of Green Bay, Humboldt, Lawrence, Ledgeview, Pittsfield, Red River, and Scott. GBMSD’s contract customers are Georgia Pacific Corporation and Procter & Gamble Paper Products Company. Both facilities are modern, well maintained sewage treatment plants. The Green Bay facility is a 49 million mgd facility with two multiple hearth incinerators used for sludge disposal. The De Pere facility is a 14.2 mgd facility with one multiple hearth incinerator. The GBMSD has 85 miles of interceptor pipes which collect wastewater from residents and businesses. The GBMSD has net assets of $158 million and an annual operating budget of $24.5 million. The capital improvements budget over the next five years is estimated to be $62 million. The GBMSD currently employs 100 full time non-union employees.
