Served by a dedicated staff of 40 and multiple contract positions, the PW Depart. has a FY 20/21 budget of $40.8 million and is organized into the Capital Improvement Program, Engineering Services, Facilities & Fleet, Operations & Maintenance, Recycling & Waste, and Administration & Finance divisions. The PW Director seeks an exceptionally qualified Deputy PW Director to lead the Engineering Services and Capital Improvement Program Divisions. This position will oversee 2-3 direct reports, 14 city staff and up to 14 consultants across both divisions.

The ideal candidate is a good listener who manages and develops staff, serves as a mentor, trainer, and evaluator, encouraging staff to reach their potential. This position requires experience developing and constructing capital projects and will have comprehensive knowledge of CIP funding sources and strategies, have a proven track record securing grants, understand how to work with regional planning agencies and Caltrans, and lobby for funds and program projects. 

Minimum requirements includes a Bachelor’s degree with major course work in civil engineering, public administration, business administration or a closely related field, with at least 5 years of increasing responsibility in PW operations or professional civil engineering experience involving the planning, financing, design, and construction of PW projects, including 2 years of management and administrative responsibility. This position requires possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.

The salary range is between $134,236 – $179,902 annually, DOQ. In addition, the City offers an attractive benefits package.
