Job Description:

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Louisiana State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor level in the area of Structural Engineering.

LSU is designated as the Flagship University in the state of Louisiana, has a total enrollment of more than 34,000 students, and is the only public university in the state to be designated a Carnegie Research I University. The LSU College of Engineering has experienced significant enrollment increases in recent years and has completed a $110 million facilities renovation in the Summer of 2017. LSU is located in Baton Rouge, which has a metropolitan-area population of more than 800,000. The university's location, within one of the world's largest petrochemical corridors and in close proximity to the Mississippi River and its dynamic delta, provides significant opportunities for infrastructural, coastal and environmental engineering research. Current strengths of the department include structures/infrastructures, coastal engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering (traffic, planning, pavement/materials), environmental engineering, and water resources engineering. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; developing and sustaining an independent, extramurally sponsored, research program; and provide service to the undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the College of Engineering, and LSU.

 

 

 

50% Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in the areas of Structural Engineering. Examine and grade student performance. Maintain professional standards and level of competence and excellence in teaching and advising at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Advise graduate students and guide them towards MS and PhD degrees.

 

50% Develop externally funded research program and establish collaborative relationships with other research groups in the College of Engineering and other Colleges, state and federal agencies. Publish work in top journals in area of expertise.

 

 

 

Required Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a closely related field and have demonstrated a strong interest in research and scholarship. In addition, applicants should possess the personal and professional qualities to achieve excellence in teaching and advising at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who have developed or have the potential to develop a sustainable research program focusing on one or more innovative and ground-breaking structural engineering areas. The department is prioritizing the following areas: computational modeling of resilient infrastructure systems, 3D-printed structures, rapid post-disaster assessment and rehabilitation strategies, and multiple hazard simulation and analysis. However, candidates with a strong scholarly record in all areas of structural engineering are encouraged to apply. The expertise of the new hire will complement the current research thrusts, including repair and rehabilitation, structural reliability, dynamic effects, computational mechanics, modeling, and wind engineering.
