Assistant Professor of Practice- Environmental Engineering

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a non-tenure track, Assistant Professor of Practice in Environmental Engineering position. We are looking for an individual with excellent practical professional experience who is dedicated to being a leader in educational innovation, curriculum development, and pedagogy. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and teach general courses supportive of both the environmental engineering and the civil engineering programs, as well as core undergraduate and graduate environmental engineering courses.  We are particularly interested in candidates with sufficient background to teach a subset of the following: principles of environmental engineering, mass and energy balances, environmental engineering laboratory, biological principles of environmental engineering, fate and transport of substances, and the design of environmental engineering systems. Candidates applying for this position are expected to be significantly involved in the Department’s and College’s teaching mission including not only classroom teaching but also the scholarship of teaching and learning and activities such as curricular continuous improvement, outreach, and student mentoring.
 

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) consists of approximately 33 faculty, 500 undergraduate students, and 130 graduate students with an ABET/EAC accredited undergraduate curriculum in Civil Engineering, and graduate programs leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.  CEE is developing an undergraduate curriculum in Environmental Engineering for which we will seek ABET/EAC accreditation after its first graduates in 2024. The successful candidate will teach classes on both the Lincoln and Omaha campuses, and the position could be primarily located on the campus of their choice.

Minimum Required Qualifications

1. An undergraduate or masters degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, or a closely related discipline. 
2. A PhD in environmental engineering, or a closely related discipline. 
3. Recent, practical, non-academic experience progressing in engineering responsibility, including design experience, project engineering, regulatory compliance, and/or management.  
4. A Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain a PE License within a period of one year or demonstrate, by virtue of education and/or design experience, qualifications to teach courses that are primarily design in content.  
5. Candidates must also demonstrate readiness to advance inclusive excellence and diversity, as these are core values in our school, college, and university.

Preferred Qualifications

1. An undergraduate degree in civil engineering or environmental engineering. 
2. A Professional Engineering (PE) license. 
3. Record of teaching experience related to civil and environmental engineering. 
4. Experience in the application of technology to environmental engineering. 
5. Experience with the analysis and design of environmental engineering infrastructure. 
6. Experience with ABET accreditation procedures and deliverables. 
7. Demonstrated leadership roles in civil and environmental engineering related professional organizations. 
8. Record of professional publications and presentations. 
9. Record of grant funding for the scholarship of teaching and learning. 
10. Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
