POSITION SUMMARY

Pioneer Technical Services is looking to fill a Senior Engineer position in its Butte, MT location. This person will provide guidance to both Project and Staff Engineers as required by the project. They must possess technical ability necessary to direct and oversee major aspects of individual projects and ensure project(s) meet professional and corporate standards. This position is responsible for the overall quality of project(s), including pre-proposal contacts, proposal preparation and presentations. The person selected for this position must interface with clients, promote corporate design and quality standards. The Engineer shall provide communication and coordination of project personnel and will manage projects to completion via resources assigned. This position manages project supervisors/leaders assigned to specific projects and will provide guidance to make sure that project goals, schedules and budgets are maintained. Must have a valid drivers license.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Personnel Management/supervision

  • Position will establish, monitor, and direct the quality assurance goals for subordinate staff
  • Develops a working climate in which personnel are motivated to perform to full potential.
  • Maintains an open-door policy regarding staff support.
  • Ensures effective and timely communications.
  • Ensures client and corporate expectations are achieved
  • Mentoring of staff

2. Project and Business Development

  • Participates in development of projects by: making client contacts, assisting in proposal preparation, and participates in proposal interviews and presentations.
  • Obtain and provide appropriate project information and client references for use in company marketing and proposal activities including project descriptions, project completion data, project photos, and letters of reference.
  • Keep personal data updated to reflect current experience, training, registration and professional areas of expertise.
  • Clearly and consistently explains project(s) to internal and external customers.

3. Project Execution-Design Phase

  • Provides a knowledge base for Project/Staff Engineers to access.
  • Responsible for monitoring project quality and execution of tasks
  • Assist in identifying necessary personnel to complete a project, the level and skill of manpower required the estimated number of drawings to meet design, time involved, and project schedules.
  • Serves as a task manager of tasks within a larger project
  • Compose, write and review final reports
  • Participate in the firm's QA and QC program, assuring that the assigned project task is executed in accordance with company policies and standards, including, but not limited to, establishing basic design criteria, project checking and quality control, use of engineering and drafting standards, standard guide specifications, cost estimating and control procedures, construction inspection, testing, technical and project administration files and project closeout procedures.

4. Project Execution-Inspection Phase

  • Monitors project in coordination with the Project Manager/Client.
  • Assists the Client in all negotiations with contractors.
  • Require that field representatives review contract documents and drawings prior to bid opening so that they will have familiarized themselves with the projects prior to the construction phase.
  • See that all field inspection work is completed within the assigned technical man-hour budgets.
  • Act as liaison with the Client and Project Manager as necessary during the construction phase of a project.
  • Evaluate and report to Project Manager/Client on construction time schedules, project progress, and project delays.
  • Advise the Project Manager when the construction period exceeds contractual limits.
  • Monitor safety on the portion of the project assigned.
  • Examine monthly certificates for payment, and check against actual work done in the field.
  • Arrange for a final inspection and establish a date of acceptance for each project and prepare final certificates for the approval of the Client.
  • Approve samples and material substitutions in the field in conjunction with the field representative, Client, and the Project Manager as required.
  • Coordinate activity between field inspection personnel and production personnel in matters of additional drawings, as-built drawings, samples, equipment and shop drawings.
  • See that shop drawings are checked and approved within a reasonable time to avoid delays and that shop drawings records are maintained accurately and to date.

5. Financial Oversight

  • Responsible for completion of the task assigned within budget and on schedule.
  • Responsible for client billing and following up on Accounts Receivable in accordance with the firm's Accounts Receivable Policy.

Skills and Abilities

Education: Bachelor's Degree in civil or environmental engineering and a minimum of 8 years of experience. Professional Engineer or equivalent accreditation required at time of hire.

Skills: In depth knowledge of traditional engineering standards and corporate quality requirements and a demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary professionals is necessary. Expertise in engineering disciplines, design standards, quality control and the ability to work as part of a team is imperative. Must be proficient in using technology and computers relevant to the profession. This includes Microsoft Office 365 products and AutoCad Civil 3D.
