CAREER OPPORTUNITY

The City of Ceres is seeking a Director of Engineering Services/City Engineer for the Engineering  Department for an exciting and growing community! The City is in need of a visionary leader with a strong background in public sector construction and/or public works management. The successful candidate will serve as a respectable representative of the Engineering Services Department, as they will regularly interact with elected officials, outside agencies, executive leadership, contractors and developers, and the public. Along with serving as a leader in the organization, you will prepare the five-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP), review and develop development maps and construction plans, oversee consulting contracts, facilitate other functions of the department, oversee a department staff, and develop and administer a department budget. An ideal candidate will be a self-starter and demonstrate strong communication, relationship-management, and organizational skills. THE JOB / IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Director of Engineering also functions as the City Engineer and will report to the City Manager and oversee the Engineering Department, which comprises of nine full-time employees and one contract employee, with an administrative budget of $1.7 million. We are searching for a candidate who can build successful working relationships across departments, with elected officials, executive leadership, and contractors. An integral part of this position is striving for comprehensive community engagement, as you oversee essential projects and citywide improvements. We are looking for someone with a strong background in project and budget management, along with experience working on CIP in both federally funded and local street projects. The ideal candidate must be an effective delegator, communicator, and leader with an ability to balance the technical nature of projects along with the public relations of working in a community-facing position.

Background and Education:

Required:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, construction management, engineering, or a related field.
  • Eight years of increasingly responsible experience in public sector construction management, public works maintenance management, or related activity including three years of management and administrative responsibility in a municipal setting.
  • Possession of registration as a Civil Engineer by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license.

Salary and Benefits

Salary: $117,000-143,000 annually, DOE/DOQ. Salary will be negotiated depending upon qualifications and experience. In addition to salary, the city offers an attractive benefits package.
