Job Details

Texas State University has launched a new Civil Engineering program focused on the breadth of concepts associated with technology-enhanced (Smart) infrastructure. Currently, the program seeks to fill a non-tenure line Assistant Professor of Practice position and either an Associate Professor of Practice or Professor of Practice position to begin in Spring 2022 (preferred) or Fall 2022 semester.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach general civil engineering courses, as well as courses in their area of expertise, at the undergraduate and graduate level. Assistant Professor of Practice - Required Qualifications

  • An undergraduate or master’s degree in civil engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrates more than five years beyond entry level experience in a professional practice or management capacity.
  • Professional Licensure/Registration (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure within three years of initial hire.
  • Demonstrated, by virtue of education and/or design experience, qualifications to teach courses that are primarily design in content. 
  • Demonstrated leadership roles in civil engineering related professional organizations.
  • Record of professional publications and presentations.

Assistant Professor of Practice - Preferred Qualifications

  • A doctoral level degree in civil engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Record of teaching experience related to civil engineering.
  • Experience in the application of technology to civil infrastructure. 
  • Experience with ABET accreditation procedures and deliverables.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication. 

Associate Professor of Practice - Required Qualifications

  • An undergraduate or master’s degree in civil engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrates more than 10 years beyond entry level experience in a professional practice or management capacity.
  • Professional Licensure/Registration (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure within three years of initial hire.
  • Demonstrated, by virtue of education and/or design experience, qualifications to teach courses that are primarily design in content. 
  • Demonstrated leadership roles in civil engineering related professional organizations.
  • Record of professional publications and presentations.

Associate Professor of Practice - Preferred Qualifications

The Ingram School of Engineering of Texas State University was founded in Fall 2007 and houses ABET-accredited undergraduate programs in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering – Computer Engineering Concentration, Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering and an MS degree in engineering. Faculty in the Ingram School of Engineering have access to doctoral students via the Materials Science, Engineering and Commercialization Program. A civil engineering program has been proposed to begin Fall 2019 and is awaiting final state approval. The School has an enrollment of close to 1,000 undergraduates and 70 graduate students and is an academic unit within the College of Science and Engineering. The School is housed in Ingram Hall, a 167,000 square foot facility which opened in Fall 2018. It has additional space in the RF Mitte Building.
