Scope of Job:

The Civil Engineering (CE) Department at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for an open rank position to start Fall 2022 semester to meet the growing student enrollments of the CE department of about 770 undergraduate and MS students with 17 faculty members. The five areas of CE emphasized in the undergraduate degree plan are structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, construction management, transportation engineering and water resources/environmental engineering. The graduate program will focus four areas of environmental/water resources, structural/geotechnical, construction/transportation, and energy/infrastructure. The department is one of the fastest growing departments at the university. Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates for the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (open-rank) position will be considered based on demonstrated potential to enhance the teaching, service, and research capabilities of the Civil Engineering Department. Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering/Management (at least conferred before the start date) or in a closely related field from an accredited university. Applicants must also have a demonstrated ability (or a well-designed plan) to develop and maintain a funded research program, to lead multidisciplinary collaborative projects, and to active participation in department activities. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate having the appropriate level professional achievements and balance in teaching, research and service, collaboration with faculty across disciplines and the ability to involve students. Candidates must play a collaborative role as a team member in initiatives for partnerships with schools, community colleges, government agencies, and industry to create an eco-system that will bring economic prosperity to the Rio Grande Valley.

Preferred Qualification:

The highest consideration will be given to applicants who have expertise in the Construction Engineering/Management with 4-8 years of experience in engineering related research or relevant engineering experience is preferred. Professional of Engineers (PE) license is also preferred.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund – a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.

UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
