The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a continuing-track faculty position in Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) at the assistant professor level starting Spring 2022. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementation, development, and refinement of core program technical classes in CEM and select engineering foundation classes.

The successful applicant will assume a continuing track position which will be primarily teaching and service oriented. As such, the candidate is expected to develop and deliver technical courses in the CEM curriculum, to mentor students and advise student organizations, to liaise with industry partners and program stakeholders and to maintain involvement in scholarly and/or professional activities. The position requires a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, and at least 3 academic years (27 months) of postsecondary teaching experience (which could be full- or part-time) evidencing comprehensive knowledge of construction engineering and management. The person filling this position will have the primary responsibility for teaching courses in the area of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Engineering and Construction Surveying. Previous experience teaching these courses at the undergraduate level is required.

The CEM program builds on the established strengths of UD’s Civil Engineering program and has strong industrial support locally and regionally. Numerous opportunities exist to interact with industry professionals throughout the Northeast corridor and the Mid-Atlantic region. There is also significant opportunity for multidisciplinary collaboration within the University.  Specifically, there are many opportunities for collaboration within the Department, which has 38 faculty members, ~400 undergraduate students, and over 120 full-time graduate students and research associates.  Active research programs for potential collaboration exist in structural, geotechnical, environmental, coastal, transportation and infrastructure systems, and railroad engineering.  Collaborative opportunities also exist throughout the University with faculty from other Colleges, Departments and Programs.
