Assistant Professor in Automated Transportation Systems
As part of a strategic hiring initiative, the College of Engineering is investing in hiring future leaders in the areas of robotics and automation, energy systems, and advanced materials and design. With this posting, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (https://www.engr.wisc.edu/department/civil-environmental-engineering/) is searching for a tenure-track faculty member with expertise in automated transportation systems. We would welcome a spectrum of expertise including: (1) sensors for connected and automated vehicles, and smart and automated transportation infrastructure, and their integration for smart cities; (2) understanding how automated vehicles interact with roadway infrastructure and other road users; (3) understanding the impacts of these emerging technologies on travel behavior, transportation
network behavior, efficiency and safety, goods movement, and the environment; and (4) harnessing these technologies to develop innovative transportation solutions, including transportation demand and supply management and new mobility options. We particularly welcome expertise that is complementary and synergistic to domestic and international activities that CEE faculty have established.
Applicants are expected to develop innovative and internationally recognized research programs, contribute to scholarly work in Civil and Environmental Engineering, undertake instruction in undergraduate and graduate classes, participate in faculty governance, and engage in department, university, professional, and public service. The successful candidate is expected to develop interactions with other faculty on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus including those within the College of Engineering and other colleges.
PhD in Civil Engineering or closely related field and demonstrated excellence in research and teaching is required.
Qualifications: Strong academic record and potential for creative research, and a commitment to both undergraduate and graduate instruction. Prefer applicants with postdoc or other postgraduate research experience in the areas related to automated transportation systems.
