THE DIVISION
The City of Visalia’s Engineering Division is part of the Public Works Department. The Engineering Division serves the City by managing the City’s wide range of capital improvement projects and the permitting of work within the public right-of-way.

THE POSITION: 
The Associate Engineer will be responsible for project delivery of multiple capital improvement projects, and shall assist with the various tasks required of the Engineering Division.  Delivery of projects includes but is not limited to project management, construction management, engineering design, utility coordination, agency coordination, funding management, right-of-way procurement, public outreach, cost estimation, specification writing, project scheduling, consultant procurement (RFP’s), contractor procurement (RFB’s), reporting, and similar type work. 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidate will possess a high level of professionalism, sound knowledge of engineering and construction management principles, customer service skills, and a demonstrated track record of successfully completing projects.  The position requires excellent judgment, integrity, and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will be a self-driven individual, willing to take on new challenges, flexibility to function in either a project or construction management role, and be able to effectively communicate with coworkers, supervisors, support staff, and outside stakeholders to successfully deliver projects.
 
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and ability is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and abilities would be:

  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible civil engineering experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a BS degree in civil engineering.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment.
