Our Client is part of market leading global energy efficiency business, dedicated to helping the public and private sector improve sustainability, reduce energy costs and minimise operational expenditure on buildings.

The Engineering Development and Design Team are responsibilities for providing engineering solutions that offer a mix of problem resolution, energy profile reduction and a low carbon functionality to help future proof operations and costs. This is a challenging environment at a time of major industrial de-carbonisation and engineering change, that challenge traditional conventions in thinking and approach. The business is looking to attract high quality engineering staff across all disciplines who feel that they would enjoy this challenge and would be able to develop and grow within a team of similar minded people.

This role is home based with time also to be spent on site visiting clients and live projects, along with regular team gatherings for progress meetings, training and collaboration purposes.

Job Purpose

* Leading the Engineering Development Team, working in collaboration with the Sales, Construction, O&M and Commercial Teams, generating commercially compelling concept designs, through to full engineering Construction' information packages aligned to meet our customers' requirements

* The development team manages all design aspects of a portfolio of projects throughout the UK, carried out by external and internal service providers under performance contract and competitive tender frameworks. As leader, you will apply your considerable design and construction experience to both new and existing major energy schemes to minimise business & technical risk and deliver schemes safely and to budget.

* The role will require forward strategic thinking and insight to ensure that the business are market leaders when it comes to new technologies and concepts to meet the challenges of the largest energy transition for a Net Zero Carbon world; this will require collaboration with the Product Team and wider Group.

* Key role in working to secure long-term sustainable business development aligned to business targets securing maintainable financial performance.

Main Responsibilities

* Lead the Development Team in the UK (10 direct reports in various locations across the UK).

* Leading for innovation in developing innovative energy systems.

* Oversee and provide in depth analysis of Key Project Development Metrics ensuring commercial content meets the customer and projects requirements.

* Building relationships with customers to understand, manage and predict their requirements.

* Responsible for the Development budgets along with business conversion GM level through close collaboration with all Teams.

* Manage the design output of agreed design activity programmes to time, cost, quality and safety targets, maintaining a zero defects culture.

* Monitor the Development Team ensuring the project design portfolio performs against time, cost, environmental, quality and safety indicators.

* Allocate workload, monitor resources and ensure business and project objectives are maintained.

* Ensure competitiveness of all projects by utilising existing supplier frameworks or via competitive tender of works packages through whole asset lifecycle.

* Degree Educated preferred (B.Eng./M.Eng. MSC) or HND/Experience in Electrical, Mechanical, Energy, Materials or Chemical Engineering (Class 2 or above preferential) or proven experience within an Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Sector.

* Good understanding of the application of CDM Regulations.

* IOSH or NEBOSH General Certification.

* Experience/knowledge of the CIBSE Regulations/building services and industrial sector.

* Proven track record in carrying out detailed Project Development reports to fulfil multi-technology Industrial & Commercial Energy Solutions.

* A good knowledge of the building services sector of the construction industry.

* In depth knowledge of private/public sector & commercial procurement.

* Review and assimilate information on client utility systems and operating data in order to develop initial proposals including making informed assumptions where information is not available

* Ensuring that technical risks inherent in concept solutions and proposals to clients are identified and proposals made to mitigate if required.

* Develop complex technical models to simulate the operation of client utility systems and identify and evaluate energy savings opportunities.

* Take personal responsibility for Health and Safety within the Technical Services function and ensure that all policies, procedures and long-term Corporate goals are adhered to.

* Management of Health and Safety, ensuring compliance with legislation, reduction in the cost of accidents and ill health to the business.

* Driving continuous improvement.

* Broad understanding of the wider impacts driving the whole business

Required skills

* Degree Educated preferred (B.Eng./M.Eng. MSC) or HND/Experience in Electrical, Mechanical, Energy, Materials or Chemical Engineering (Class 2 or above preferential) or proven experience within an Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Sector.

* Good understanding of the application of CDM Regulations.

* IOSH or NEBOSH General Certification.

* Experience/knowledge of the CIBSE Regulations/building services and industrial sector.

* Proven track record in carrying out detailed Project Development reports to fulfil multitechnology Industrial & Commercial Energy Solutions.

* Ability to draw on and develop knowledge and expertise in a highly professional manner, and to analyse and solve alliance and/or client issues to satisfactory resolution.

* Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, customers and stakeholders.

* Sound commercial understanding and recognition of wider impacts of actions and decisions.

* A good knowledge of the building services sector of the construction industry.

* In depth knowledge of private/public sector & commercial procurement.
