Essex Projects throughout the M25 corridor

£35,000 - £52,000 + benefits (dependant on previous experience)

About the company:

Our client is an award winning remediation contractor who offers practical solutions for brownfield regeneration and contaminated land problems. By using their extensive in-house experience, they aim to provide an unrivalled service tailored to their clients individuals needs. To date, out client has successfully completed technical projects throughout the UK for local authorities, residential and commercial developers, main contractors and consultants either in the role of principal contractor or subcontractor which range from small spills through to large multi-technology soil and groundwater remediation / development platform preparation on brownfield sites.

Our client recruits only the best people, who are motivated, dedicated and can work with a professional outlook. Having worked closely with this client for many years, I would highly recommend them as they offer an excellent working environment where they encourage professionals to grow, develop and expand. Furthermore, with a close management team, the business has the ability to offer a real family feel, assuring that you will be a name rather than just a number within the organisation.

About the opportunity:

Due to ongoing company expansion, my client has identified the need for a Geotechnical Engineer to assist in the technical delivery of remediation and enabling projects. The opportunity will involved a mix of office and site based working (sites primarily across the South of England though further afield on occasion) and main duties will include the following:

Pre-start tendering, organisation and planning of projects:
  • Input into tenders including review of site investigation information and identifying geotechnical risks and appropriate solutions
  • Advise / support on geotechnical designs or design checks, including excavations, ground retention such as shoring and sheet piling, stockpiles, backfilling, working platforms and surface reinstatement
  • Assisting with production or review of remediation strategies, materials management plans, earthworks specifications etc
  • Drawings, including basic use of Autocad
  • Planning and oversight of site investigation works to obtain information for detailed design and costing of projects

Delivery of projects:
  • Oversight of geotechnical / earthworks aspects of all projects, including identification and management of project risks
  • Overseeing and advising on material processing, sentencing and reuse to ensure compliance against the project specification and remediation strategy (experience in ground improvement including soil stabilisation would be desirable)
  • Oversee / supervise / train site staff for specific high risk site activities such as installation of ground retention equipment, pile mat installation etc
  • Arranging laboratory and site geotechnical / earthworks testing, assessing results and actioning implications
  • Use of basic equipment where required e.g. hand shear vane, CBR probe etc
  • Keeping relevant records such as soil descriptions, test results, as-built surveys and processing data
  • Assisting with co-ordinating / appointing relevant subcontractors
  • Ongoing liaison with clients representatives, third party verification engineers, consultants or regulators

About the requirements:

In order to be considered for this opportunity, you will ideally hold 4-6 years post graduate experience, with a proportion of this time spent on-site in a contracting role.

Knowledge of soil description, engineering geology principles, geotechnical design, earthworks best practice and specifications, and compliance testing is desirable, although further training will be provided.

A valid driving licence is essential as the role will involve travel to sites and although most sites are throughout the South of England, with some further afield on occasion, overnight stays may be required (expenses covered) so there must be a willingness to do this, as / when needed.

About the benefits and rewards:

For this opportunity, my client is targeting professionals looking to earn anywhere between £35,000 £52,000 per annum, however specific remuneration will depend on experience and suitability. There will also be a generous package offered in addition to excellent career development opportunities.
