Role: Senior Civil / Structural Engineer with large/heavy concrete structures design and analysis experience

Location: Plymouth, Devon / Bristol (this role can be primarily worked from home with occasional travel to Devonport and Bristol (travel expenses will be covered))

Salary: £40000 - £80000 + benefits including travel / relocation assistance, 10% client pension contribution, 24 days holiday and private healthcare

Security Clearance: Candidates will be required to obtain SC level security clearance for UK defence sites, therefore candidates must hold a sole British passport (no dual nationals).

Start: January 2022 onwards (due to need to obtain security clearance - client happy to wait for candidates to serve appropriate notice period)

An exciting opportunity exists for Civil / Structural Engineers experienced in the design and analysis of large / heavy concrete structures for use in regulated industries (e.g. defence, nuclear, power, oil and gas, etc) to work directly in support of a team delivering £1bn+ mission critical projects for the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA).

This role can be primarily worked from home with some occasional travel to HMNB Dockyard in Plymouth, Devon and/or Bristol (c1-2 days every 2 weeks, all expenses covered).

Candidates will ideally require design office experience, whilst marine structures experience would be very advantageous.

An understanding of the delivery of seismic qualified structures into heavy, regulated industries would also be advantageous, though this is not essential.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Advising customers on design features to meet project requirements whilst ensuring value for money and guarding against excessive margins.
  • Providing technical support on civil and structural engineering design features to inform how they affect operability of the facility.
  • Clarification of schedules and, more generally, design deliverables
  • Review of construction non conformances and proposed solutions made by others;
  • Review of construction modifications and proposed solutions made by others;
  • Participating in collaborative meeting with designers, constructors and project managers
  • Providing advice on the developing design for manufacturability, and through life maintainability
  • Providing technical inputs for funding requests and technical requirements for contracts.
  • Reviewing design & construction activities and schedules to identify areas that can be improved and reduce construction time-scales
  • Representing to and liaising with key stakeholders, including senior naval officers (e.g. captains, admirals)

Qualifications and Experience
  • Chartered Civil / Structural Engineer ideally or other suitable experience
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of implementing infrastructure projects (design and construction)
  • Experience of design and safety management of heavy civils/infrastructure
  • Experience of working with, and advising, government clients
  • Awareness of seismic design and analysis techniques would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of design, safety features, previous modifications, current asset condition and asset performance of existing Submarine infrastructure at Devonport would be useful
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of implementing infrastructure projects (design and construction) on UK nuclear licensed sites would also be useful
