Reporting to the Project Design Coordinator, the Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for overseeing all geotechnical activities mainly consisting of trenches and shafts

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing comprehensiveness of geohazard assessment and likely mitigation measures (including reroute potential).
  • Define site investigation scope required to close out outstanding geohazard and problem ground condition issues and enable development/refining of mitigation designs (determine extent, risk and mitigation measures for outstanding geohazards).
  • Develop detailed geotechnical designs (including geotechnical models) and Work Instructions for permanent landslide mitigation, complex river and road crossings, deep open excavations and cuttings, surface and subsurface water control, problem foundation conditions for above ground installations (using findings from the geotechnical site investigations). Assess likely feasibility of various river and road crossing techniques.
  • Investigate feasibility of reroute options and geohazard risks associated with each option. Contribute to Reroute Reports and Reroute Definition Reports.
  • Present Geohazard Workshops on landslide risks and mitigation options.
  • Identify the extent of problem ground conditions such as buoyancy and liquefaction potential, shallow water table (buoyancy and dewatering potential) and fault crossings. Prepare Geohazard Field Reports presenting investigation findings.
  • Carry out assessments of likely rippability and blasting potential for pipeline trenching and foundation excavations in bedrock for above ground installations (permanent works) and cuttings (temporary works). Assess feasibility of mechanical trenching methods.
  • Develop remedial ROW works designs and Work Instructions for temporary stabilization (shafts, cuttings, deep excavations, spoil stockpiles). Including generation of Typical Detail drawings for geohazard remediation.
  • Prepare Stability and Rockfall Assessment Procedure for the ROW.
  • Complete Stability and Rockfall Assessment Checklists for the ROW and access roads sections which pose potential geohazards (for both temporary and permanent works).
  • Carry out ROW slope risk assessments and Work Instructions for working on steep slopes as part of Slope Management Procedure.
  • Prepare Scope of Works for slope stability monitoring for both temporary and long term movement monitoring and oversee installation. Recovery of data and interpretation of monitoring results.

  • Site supervision of geotechnical remedial construction works.
  • As-built documentation of remedial works carried out to geohazards on the ROW.

Preferred Experience

  • Degree or equivalent in a geotechnical or civil engineering subject
