Faculty Position in Pavement Engineering and Materials

Clemson University recently created the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences (SCEEES) that houses the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences (EEES).  The SCEEES is home to 43 tenure/tenure track faculty, more than 220 graduate students and 550 undergraduates.  As part of a University initiative in cluster hires, the SCEEES will be adding as many as 12 positions over the next several years.  The School has established and is growing expertise in the following areas: Engineering the Surface and Subsurface; Engineering the Earth’s Ecosphere; Smart City Service; and Resilient Communities.

For this hiring cycle, the SCEEES invites applications for a tenure-track position with a focus on Pavement Engineering and Materials.  Preference will be given to candidates with background in asphalt materials and expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Mechanistic characterization of pavement materials
• Constitutive modelling and non-linear FEM analysis
• Viscoelasticity and continuum mechanics
• Pavement sustainability and life-cycle assessment
• Advanced technology for pavement monitoring, evaluation, and data mining and analysis
• Pavement instrumentation and energy harvesting
• Advanced materials characterization techniques 

A Fall 2022 appointment is anticipated to be filled at the assistant professor level.  The successful candidate will have an earned PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.  

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level and develop new courses in their specialty area.  The candidate will advise MS and PhD students and develop a high-quality, sponsored research program.
