Job Overview:
The role is for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with a market leading provider of Oil & Gas, LNG and Renewable facilities.
McDermott's engineering expertise extends around the world and across a variety of disciplines. Our engineering services include conceptual design, feasibility studies, process design, front-end engineering and design (FEED), detailed engineering, project engineering, construction engineering, and installation engineering. An opportunity has risen for a senior geotechnical engineer to join our Subsea Engineering Division, working mainly in the Oil & Gas and LNG energy sectors. The geotechnical work handled by the Discipline includes pipe-soil interaction analysis, geohazard risk assessment, design of deep and shallow foundations for subsea structures and platforms.
Reporting to the Geotechnical Discipline Manager you will be working in collaboration with pipeline engineers, structural engineers and other disciplines to provide technical inputs to a multi-disciplinary project team. You will be expected to produce accurate work, possess the required geotechnical skills to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and experience and participate in resolution of technical issues to ensure projects on-time delivery.
You should be a team player and able to work independently with minimum supervision and possess good verbal and written communication skills. Provide leadership, mentoring and guidance to others.
You should be capable of providing technical input, services and leadership to projects including geotechnical calculations, reports, drawings and other project documentation as well as being familiar with international standards and codes of practice such as API, DNV etc.
The role is office based in our office in Bedfont Lakes, Feltham but short-term offshore assignments may be required.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- The successful candidate should have good knowledge and experience covering the following core skills:
- Preparation of scope of work of offshore geotechnical and geophysical surveys, laboratory test assignments for design of pipelines and foundations
- Interpretation of ground investigation data from site investigation
- Geotechnical calculations and preparation of technical reports, specifications
- Derivation of soil parameters for pipeline design
- Pipe-Soil Interaction assessment in accordance with industry standards like DNVGL-RP-F114
- Geohazard assessment and recommendations for risk mitigation erivation of soil parameters for foundation design of subsea structures and platforms
- Design of shallow and deep foundations, including mudmats, suction piles, driven piles and pile drivability
- Experience of numerical modelling and geotechnical software including Plaxis, SLOPEW, ABAQUS is preferred but not essential
- Full familiarity with MS Word, Excel etc.
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- A degree in civil engineering or geology with a post -graduate qualification in geotechnical engineering (minimum MSc or equivalent)
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience
- Should preferably be a chartered engineer
