To support our growth in low / no carbon energy, Arup is seeking a Senior Engineer to join our Infrastructure London Group Energy Team and become an integral part of the London Energy Hub with experience of blue / green hydrogen and project delivery ideally within the energy sector.

Arup's Infrastructure London Group hosts a diverse range of experts undertaking work in the transition and zero carbon sector encompassing process, civil, structural and geotechnical engineers; seismic, blast and fire analysts; structural analysts, security, architects and advisors. Our energy clients include Governments, regulators, new build developers and site licence companies. The London Energy Hub includes energy specialist advisors working right across the built environment including in renewables, hydrogen, transitional fuels and city energy resilience.

The successful candidate will be expected to technically lead energy engineering scopes of work and be part of a multi-disciplinary teams of designers, engineers and advisors. As part of the Energy Hub and the wider expertise across Arup Infrastructure London Group, the successful candidate will also be expected to collaboratively support bidding and delivering work within their insight and expertise.

The London Energy Hub provides a collaborative working environment with multi-disciplinary designers, engineers, consultants and advisors coming together to deliver projects across the energy sector. The candidate is also expected to work collaboratively with the broader Arup energy expertise in other UK and Global locations. Typical project engagements include Conceptual design and feasibility studies; pre-FEE and FEED engineering studies for offshore developments; Detailed design and engineering for offshore projects; procurement support and yard supervision & support; Design & risk reviews during detailed design and construction phases; In-service support including asset integrity management and life extensions and relocation and decommissioning studies.

The role

As a senior engineer, you will be integral to the development of Arup's hydrogen capability within the UK, in addition, to providing support to the projects globally, where necessary. The successful candidate will enhance our ability to undertake conceptual designs, feasibility pre-FEED, FEED and detailed study work in low / no carbon energy. The senior engineer will also contribute to the business development of our services, deliver UK based studies and technology inputs into integrated study activities.

To achieve in this role, you will have the ability to…
  • Deliver Arup's technical activities; specifically in the area of blue / green hydrogen project engineering;
  • Support our work in renewable/low carbon projects
  • Help Arup in the execution of various existing and future studies and projects; on time, to quality and delivering to cost;
  • Support Arup's development of an overall hydrogen capability in the development of standard procedures, templates and protocols for carrying out our general activities within the hydrogen technology area;
  • Assisting Arup's business development activities within the hydrogen technology area;

Knowledge and Experience:

The candidate is expected to have a background in energy, chemical, process or mechanical engineering, with involvement at a project engineer level or equivalent. Demonstrable experience working as an engineer / senior engineer, with knowledge of hydrogen technologies.

Ideal requirements include:
• BSc or MSc degree Chemical, Process, or Mechanical Engineering (or another relevant engineering degree);
• Preferably Chartered with a relevant engineering institution;
• Ideally experience and appreciation of early conceptual, feasibility, FEED, detailed design stages for energy projects;
• Experience of working within multi-discipline engineering teams;
• Appreciation of the technical, commercial and contractual aspects of energy projects;
