Job Details

DutiesPerform geo-structural engineering activities in support of the Construction Design Group. Work with an interactive project team in the development of geo-structural designs for temporary and permanent works prepared for heavy-civil, specialty foundation and marine contractors.  The geo-structural designs include but are not limited to support of excavation, retaining walls, soil nail walls, shallow and deep foundation, construction dewatering, work trestles, marine cofferdam, marine berthing structures, diversion of water, etc. Work with project team members in making design decisions from detailed criteria provided by the senior engineer or project manager. Meet with the project team including the client, other contractors, owner and owner’s engineer, and other Stakeholders to develop all-inclusive solutions for projects. Lead or coordinate the observation of construction, ensuring that work performed is consistent with project plans and specifications as well as in accordance with safety guidelines. Complete detailed and accurate field reports. Work to develop solutions to difficulties in the construction that may arise. Plan and execute field explorations, including logging and classification of soils and coordination of lab testing.  Assist with training junior technical and technician staff. Support project management tasks such as budget planning, general field report reviews, and proposal development. Manage small projects under the supervision of a certified professional engineer as required. Complete engineering analyses and/or calculations within assigned discipline. Develop moderately complex conceptual models (i.e. numerical modeling, hydraulic/hydrologic modeling, etc.) under the supervision of a licensed engineer. Prepare deliverables such as memos and reports and provide quality assurance/control support. Ensure that deliverables are submitted to the project manager in a timely manner and are completed as estimated. Assist with the generation of technical reports; completes portions of technical reports and generates figures, tables, charts, etc.  Domestic travel to project sites may be required up to 10% of the time.

Minimum RequirementsApplicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or a closely related engineering field, and 2 years of experience as a Research/Teaching Assistant, as an Engineer, or in a related geo-structural/civil engineering occupation. Experience must include:

  • 6 months of experience working with MathCAD, Tekla Tedds, ArcGIS, GeoStudio Suite, SupportIT, DeepExcavation, FLAC, PLAXIS, MODFLOW, Autodesk Civil 3D & Revit, Risa-3D, or other software related to the discipline of geo-structural engineering.

The following is also required:
 

  • Completion of 2 academic years of graduate-level (Master’s or Doctorate) coursework with a major in Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Civil and Environmental Engineering.

All education, training and experience may be gained concurrently. Applicants must be U.S. workers (includes U.S. citizens, permanent residents, foreign nationals granted temporary residence under one of the 1986 legalization programs, refugees, and asylees.
