About the Role

An ambitious Senior Civil Engineer is required to enhance the civil infrastructure design capability of a growing Civil and Structural department. You should have extensive experience in design of below ground foul and surface water drainage, earthworks, pavements, external works and 3D underground services co-ordination. You would be expected to have a strong track record in one or, preferably, multiple sectors that BakerHicks operates in.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Provide civil engineering design and consultancy services on behalf of Baker Hicks under the direction of your line manager or project lead.
  • Produce civil engineering design deliverables (including drawings, specifications and reports), specification of site surveys, construction stage duties, liaison with members of client/design/construction teams, project management and ensure delivery in line with the project brief, programme and budget.
  • Production and checking of calculations and detailed drawings to ensure civil engineering designs meet appropriate quality and compliance controls, project brief and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary members of the design team to deliver safe, efficient, coordinated and buildable solutions.
  • Contribute to the preparation of enquiry plans, proposal documents, fee estimates, scopes of work and change controls as required
  • Ensure team compliance with company quality management procedures and best practice.
  • Management of Engineers, Early Careers and Technicians in the production of calculations, design deliverables (including drawings, specifications and reports), site surveys, construction stage duties, client liaison, liaison with members of design/construction teams, project management, project budget control and any other relevant duty.

Skills & Experience

Essential
  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Be fully conversant with the basics of CIRIA 753 (The SUDS Manual), Sewers for Adoption and other relevant British Standards and Eurocodes with respect to civils design and specification.
  • Experience in design and specification of external works including site, earthworks and below ground utilities layouts and levels.
  • Considerable civil engineering design, technical detailing and specification writing experience.
  • Proficient in the design of below ground foul and surface water drainage using Microdrainage software.

Desirable
  • Chartered or Incorporated Member of Institution of Civil Engineers (or equivalent) .
  • Experience of contributing to bids, proposals and tender submissions.
  • Experience of delivering multi-disciplinary projects in several sectors that BakerHicks operates in.
  • Experience of managing small teams from Apprentices and Graduates to Engineer and Technician level.
